3 Big Lies About Creating Systems In Your Business

I think there are a lot of messages in the online business space that create a feeling of lack, inferiority and comparison-itis.

A lot of...

"You should be doing X."

or

"Why aren't you doing Y."

I can't stand finger-wagging messaging.

You know, the kind of messaging that tells you to do X and not Y and X is the only way to go and if you're not doing it, there's something wrong with you...

I hate that.

First of all, there is no one right way to build and grow your online business.

And, even if the finger-waggy messaging has a point, I personally don't believe that shaming, scolding or should-ing are effective pathways to change.

So, when it comes to systems, I wanted to call out some of the lies from some of the finger-waggy people that might be holding you back.

And I want to offer a new perspective to help lighten the load and get you into action if that's what you need.

Lie #1: If you don't have systems, you'll fail.

First off, you already have systems. Every business does.

How you accomplish things in your business each day are your systems - they just may not be as elegant as you'd like. 😉️

But, I have seen really successful businesses with a few simple systems.

Sure, depending on your business model there may be a limit to how much you can grow and how profitable you can be without evolving your systems...

... but it's possible that your systems are just fine for your goals and priorities.

I'm not saying don't create systems.

I'm just saying don't believe the lie that systems are THE THING standing between you and success (they may be, but they very well might not be).

Lie #2: Go big or go home.

OF COURSE we'd all love to snap our fingers and have the most streamlined sophisticated systems taking care of everything we don't want to in our businesses.

But, that doesn't mean that you have to go for the most robust systems and tools out the gate.

I'm so happy I built over time and didn't try to guess what future Amy might need - things change so quickly (what I'm up to AND what technology is available).

It's perfectly fine to have systems that suit for now and build as you go if that feels better for you.

Lie #3: Somebody else knows best.

This is the most game-changing lie to abolish.

There are a lot of experts out there but the only person that is an expert on your business is you.

Experts can help shed light, offer curated options, and solve specific problems but truly, you are the captain of your ship.

Of course I recommend seeking support and expertise when you're out of your wheelhouse but also trust yourself to know what's going to work for you and what won't.

I believe in radical responsibility and personal empowerment and this applies to our systems too.

At the end of September, I’ll be sharing a brand new on-demand training for you.

This training is for us.

For those of us who are tired of the "should-do's" and "have-to's."

For those of us who are ready to ignore the noise, listen to ourselves first and build a business that feels good.

Stay tuned.

Amy x
