6 Steps To Creating A Reliable Traffic Source
My guess is that you're willing to put the work in to build a consistent traffic source in your business.
And you're clear on how that can completely transform your business.
The problem is that maybe you're not sure where to start or you're tired of putting the work in and not seeing results.
I want to talk about this today and share the steps to actually tackle this so you can get a system in place that will actually help you grow your business.
First, a quick tough love question:
Have you tried strategies in the past to create traffic and get new eyes on your business?
What happened?
They didn't work?
Or... you didn't stick with them long enough to see results?
For many of us, myself included, we've tried many winning strategies but just didn't stick with them.
I've tried this or that and saw some wins, had some challenges and it all fizzled out somehow when things got busy.
Or, I didn't see results fast enough and got discouraged.
However, traffic is truly one of those things in business that HAS to be prioritized at some point and the sooner the better.
So, here are the steps to go from little to no reliable traffic to a consistent flow of traffic...
Step #1: Decide
The very first step is to simply DECIDE. To decide that you want to put a long-game strategy in place and put the work in now so that you can create a sustainable foundation and ease in the future.
Imagine where you'd be if you started a blog in 2015 and stuck with it (... or a podcast or a Youtube channel 🤯)
Step #2: Define
You'll want to (even loosely) define WHO you want to connect with, how best to reach them, and the best traffic source/platform for you to focus on for your strengths, interests and goals.
Do you love video and your people are hanging out on YouTube?
Do you love to write and your people are searching to solve the problem you solve on Google?
Where do you want to focus on building and growing?
Step #3: Plan
Next, you want to figure out WHEN you're going to create and show up for your new traffic source (and how often) and WHAT you're going to create and share to attract the people you seek to help.
What are your people looking for?
What can you create to help them?
What can you create to connect with them?
Step #4: Practice
THIS step is so often overlooked. We can't just add a whole new project, focus and priority in our business without making space for it in terms of the time it takes to get consistent and get good.
First, get consistent THEN worry about getting good.
Don't try to go from 0 to Beyonce overnight.
Give yourself time and space to be imperfect and work on getting the habit in place first.
Step #5: Systematize
People often want to systematize first. The thing is, you can't systematize something you're not doing yet. #sorrynotsorry
First, start - then build systems to support you.
Your systems will vary depending on what traffic source you choose to focus on but as some form of content marketing is mostly what we're talking about here...
You'll likely want a version of these content systems:
Planning system
Creation / batching system
Distribution / syndication system
Metrics / reflection system
And you don't need them all right away and you can start with a simplified version of each of these.
The goal is to put systems in place to help you take the action you need to reliably and consistently so that traffic flow can be reliable and consistent.
Step #6: Stay The Course
The truth is that it can be hard to stick with things over time. It can be hard to move through that time where it's all effort and no results.
But with the right strategy and a focused plan, you can show up, take your action, and trust the process.
It's like going to the gym... with the right program based on your goals, you might not see results on day one but you know if you stick with it, you'll get stronger over time.
It's all about putting in reps.
Commit and then recommit as often as you need to in order to stay the course.
If focusing in on growing a consistent traffic source in your business is on your agenda and if you're interested in getting content systems in place in your business to support you, you will LOVE the content systems mini course.
