I Was Overwhelmed: Here’s What I Did

I like to keep a pretty chill day-to-day existence in my business.

Even if I have a lot going on, I remind myself that there's only so much in my control and I try to stay grounded in taking steady, strategic action towards my goals.

This is an imperfect practice.

The other day I woke up feeling a little panicky about what's on my plate and the way the timelines are falling together.

I'm not opposed to a super busy season in my business but I am opposed to super busyness as a way of operating my business.

The first thing I checked in on was...

Is this a busy season or am I fostering busyness?

It is, indeed, a busy season.

Cool, ok.

So the next question is...

Is there anything I can do to make it feel less hectic?

In order to figure this out, I looked at three things.

1️⃣ Is there anything on my calendar over the next three weeks that I can cancel or reschedule?

2️⃣ Is there anything on my to-do list that I'd LIKE to get done but can actually wait a few weeks while I can give myself permission to take more space?

3️⃣ Of everything on my plate, what is feeling the hardest or heaviest and can it be reworked to be more easeful?

This approach is part logistics, part perspective.

And honestly, I lean on both when I'm overwhelmed.

What can I externally shift, rework or change and what I can internally shift, rework or change so that my days feel less hectic.

I was able to look at everything on my plate, shift some of my expectations, shift some of my deliverables and obligations and was left with a little more white space.

Tell me, what do you do when you’re overwhelmed?
